South Herts 1st XI v Chelmsford 3rd XI11th October 2008Herts returned to winning ways with a 4-2 victory over Chelmsford 3s. Herts made a bright start but found themselves a goal down after 5 minutes when the Chelmsford forward pinched the ball from the defender’s stick and sneaked her shot past Mo Gough in the Herts goal. Despite recent defeats, Herts kept their heads up and pushed forward and were eventually rewarded when neat work between Edwards and Jowett created the chance for Jo Spinks to tap into an empty net. The equaliser was quickly followed by a second goal when Spinks calmly laid the ball back to Herts captain Partridge who smashed the ball past the keeper’s head. In the second half, Herts were much the stronger team with the defence preventing Chelmsford from creating chances. Herts third goal came from an innocuous looking free hit which Richardson fired into the area with sufficient pace for Walker to deflect it past the stranded keeper. As Chelmsford began to tire in the heat, Herts created a number of chances and were rewarded with a fourth goal when Partridge scored her second of the game with a direct strike from a penalty corner. There was still sufficient time for Herts to suffer a minor wobble when Chelmsford broke through the Herts defence and calmly finished a one on one with Gough. The goal proved only to be a consolation for Chelmsford and Herts ran out convincing winners. Welwyn & Hatfield Times article Goals: Caroline Partridge (2), Anna Walker, Jo Spinks |
