Waltham Forest 1st XI v South Herts 1st XI

8th November 2008

South Herts were unlucky to come out on the wrong end of a 3-1 defeat after a very even game played in dreadful conditions.

Herts pushed forward from the off and had two half chances in the first five minutes. Unfortunately their early pressure went unrewarded and they then fell a goal behind when the first attack from Waltham Forest saw them score after a slip in the Herts defence.

Herts were soon two down when Forest scored direct from a penalty corner with Mo Gough given no chance in the Herts goal.

Herts kept their heads up and pushed forward with purpose creating chances for Jo Spinks and Caroline Stanners. Just before half time, they finally put the ball in the net with Lucy Edwards scoring a fine goal after the keeper had parried shot from Spinks.

Herts looked much the better team in the second half and the forwards just failed to connect with a number of balls into the box from Sue Richardson and Caroline Partridge.

Sadly, just as it looked as though a Herts equaliser was there for the taking, Forest scored a fortuitous third when a short corner hit Gough’s knee and bounced in off the foot of Spencer.

The goal was harsh on Herts and they were unable to find two goals to gain the draw that their play deserved.

The team will look to get back to winning ways in their next game against Welwyn Garden City.

Goal: Lucy Edwards
