Sout Herts 2nd XI v Broxbourne 5th XI18th October 2008
South Herts finally got their first win of the season in a game of two halves. Playing with a previously unheard of squad of 15 players, Herts started with a strong attack brushing off all Broxbourne's forays with a strong defence. However, as with previous games, South Herts struggled in the D and failed to find their target time and time again. Eventually a short corner saw Ester Strous score to put Herts 1-0 up. South Herts kept up the attacks till the end of the half but were unlucky not to score again. The second half saw a strong start but poor man marking allowed Broxbourne to equalise after 10 minutes. South Herts struggled to maintain formation and made slightly chaotic substitutions, whilst continuing to leave players unmarked allowing Broxbourne to keep up the pressure. Picking it up a gear, South Herts finally returned to the attack in the final 10 minutes and a rebound off the keeper allowed a well positioned Chris Field to score the winning goal. South Herts, determined not to lose this advantage, continued going forward and maintained a more solid defensive strategy in the midfield to keep Broxbourne at bay, finally winning a game who's victory seemed like a long time in coming. Man of the Match went to Esther Strous. Goals: Esther Strous, Chris Field |
