Vauxhall Chiltern 1st XI v South Herts 1st XI

03 November 2007

South Herts 1st Xl, sporting a brand new kit, dominated their match against Chiltern 1st Xl from start to finish and ran out 3-1 winners.

In a game hindered by a particularly bouncy pitch, South Herts got quickly into their stride with Faye Jowett unlucky not to get on the end of a cross from Cate Jackson. Herts pressure soon told when a cross from the left found Jackson who laid the ball back into the path of Caroline Partridge who demonstrated her new found scoring touch with a well struck shot that beat the diving keeper.

The Herts defence were untroubled for much of the first half as the midfield dominated possession. Anna Walker was particularly strong running through Chiltern’s attempts to tackle her. When Herts won a free hit outside the circle, Sue Richardson found Partridge unmarked in front of goal and she diverted the ball past the keeper for Herts’ second.

In the second half, the fluency of Herts play was disrupted by further difficulties with the pitch and Chiltern halved the lead when their most dangerous player beat two tackles at a penalty corner and fired past Mo in the South Herts goal.

Herts were briefly pressurised but a long clearance found a scampering Faye Jowett who chased down the ball setting up a chance for Caroline Stanners who made no mistake beating the keeper.

As darkness closed in, Herts played out time and continued their undefeated run.

Goals: Caroline Partridge (2), Caroline Stanners (1)
