St Albans 2nd XI v South Herts 1st XI

Another fine result for South Herts 1st XI with a 6-3 victory against St Albans 2s.

Herts made a slow start to the game playing with only 10 players for the first half. St Albans took an early lead but Herts quickly battled back with Sarah Jowett deflecting a Sue Richardson shot past the stranded keeper.

Herts battled well for the remainder of the half ensuring the opposition were unable to get any further shots on goal. Jackie Manning continued her fine start to the season with a number of strong challenges.

With a full complement of players for the second half Herts made an instant impact with Jowett bagging a second with the slightest of touches to a free hit. A third quickly followed when Cate Jackson nipped in at the far post to tap in a pass from Jowett.

The pick of Herts goals came from Caroline Partridge who strode through the St Albans defence and smashed a head high shot past the keeper to make it 4-1.

With Caroline Stanners and new player Anna Walker continually stealing possession for Herts and driving up the wings to feed the Herts forwards there was always likely to be further goals and when Jowett’s shot was saved by the keeper, Edwards was on hand to knock in the rebound.

St Albans managed a couple of goals in a frantic second half but Herts wrapped up proceedings with a Jackson special from a penalty corner as she crashed the ball past the keeper.

Another excellent away win for Herts.
