Tring 1 v South Herts 1

12 January 2008

South Herts 2 – 7 Tring

If you’re going to lose your unbeaten run, you may as well do it in style. This was clearly the South Herts thought process as a shocking first half saw the first XI slide to their first defeat of the season.

After Sarah Jowett missed an early chance for Herts the Tring goal glut began. Mo Gough was a little unlucky to concede a penalty flick when the ball became trapped under her body but the flick was despatched by Tring and soon afterwards they were 2-0 up as their forwards ghosted into the D for a tap in.

Tips on marking were clearly not on the Herts Christmas list and Tring were able to score 5 unanswered goals by half time. Herts misery was compounded by a card for Ruth Spencer midway through the half for a trademark chopping tackle.

The second half was a more positive affair and Herts struck back quickly when Caroline Partridge flicked in a rebound from a penalty corner. Moments later it was 5-2 as Sarah Jowett met a cross from the right to knock the ball between the keeper’s legs.

At this stage Tring looked slightly panicked with Herts dominating the play but after 20 minutes of Herts pressure, Tring bounced back and scored their sixth. Herts continued to press for another goal but the scoring was rounded off late in the game when Tring scored a seventh to complete a deserved win.

Herts can take some positives from their second half display but will hope to be more on their game when they face St Neots.

Goals: Caroline Partridge, Sarah Jowett
