South Herts 1st XI v Tring 1st XI

13 October 2007

South Herts 1st XI 4 : 1 Tring 1st XI

A battling performance from South Herts 1st XI saw them maintain their unbeaten start to the season with a hard fought win against a determined Tring side.

Tring took an early lead when Herts failed to clear their area allowing the Tring player an easy finish at the far post. The loss of the goal served to wake up the South Herts team who began to push foward resulting in a couple of near misses for the forwards. Herts then earned a penalty corner which was slipped short to Lucy Edwards whose shot was hit with such deceptive pace that it fooled the keeper into mistiming her save and Herts were level.

Ruth Spencer and the returning Vikki Ayers made a number of tackles to limit the oppotunties for Tring whose occasional shots were well blocked by keeper Mo and as time wore on Tring became increasingly frustrated at their lack of opportunities.

The second half began well for Herts who pressed right from the first whistle and were unlucky not to score immediately when Sue Richardson intecepted the ball and Herts broke down the field narrowly missing the target. Their wait for a goal was short lived though as another Edwards shot from a penalty corner was illegally stopped on the line presenting Herts with a penalty flick. Up stepped the unflappable Claire Moore who fired an unstoppable penalty to the keepers right to put Herts ahead.

Herts sensed the game was now their's for the taking and committed more players foward. Anna Walker was unlucky with a firmly struck shot from the edge of the area before neat work from the Jowett sisters set up Edwards to fire the ball in for her second and Herts third. The Tring defence began to lose it's shape at the loss of the third goal and were bemused by a dribble and shot by Caroline Partridge which slipped just the wrong side of the post before Cate Jackson flew down the wing and fired in a cross for Edwards to score a much deserved hat-trick.

Goals: Lucy Edwards (3), Claire Moore (1)
