South Herts 1st XI v Shefford & Sandy 1st XI15 March 2008South Herts 1 – 5 Shefford & Sandy The less said about this performance the better. Having started brightly with Vikki Ayers shooting narrowly wide, Herts fell behind to a quick Shefford break. The opening goal was soon followed by the defining moment of the match when first Mo Gough was injured saving a penalty corner and then a penalty flick was harshly awarded against Herts when the follow up shot hit Caroline Partridge on the hip. Gough, clearly hampered by injury was unable to keep out the flick and Herts fell two behind. With ten minutes of the half left, Herts pulled a goal back with Sarah Jowett nipping in front of her marker to meet a cross from Claire Moore. Sadly, having pulled themselves back into the game, Herts went two behind again straight from the push back. The Shefford forward took the ball and ran straight down the middle of the pitch to fire past Gough. At half time, Gough was forced to leave the pitch and Vanessa Porter bravely volunteered to take her place in goal. Herts started the half positively but having missed two early chances, Shefford scored two further goals without reply. An afternoon to forget for South Herts who will need to rediscover their form for the final game of the season against Blueharts. Goal scorer: Sarah Jowett See the Welwyn & Hatfield Times article. |
