South Herts 3 -0 St Albans

A strong display saw South Herts run out easy winners against a youthful St Albans side.

Herts attacked straight from the whistle and hit the post within the first 5 minutes followed by two chances that were narrowly wide. The scoring was opened by Sarah Jowett who nicked the ball away as the keeper came to clear a cross and then dived to tap the ball over the line. Herts should have added to their total but Lucy Edward’s shot clipped the post and ran along the goal line and was cleared whilst Caroline Stanners had two chances saved by the impressive St Albans keeper who went on to save Jowett’s weak effort when through one on one.

The defence were largely untroubled in the first half whilst the midfield took every opportunity to push forward with Cate Jackson and Anna Walker firing a number of crosses in for the Herts attackers. Herts added a deserved second when Sue Richardson hit a pin point free hit to an unmarked Caroline Partridge whose glancing shot flew past the keeper, much to Caroline’s obvious delight.

The second half continued in much the same vein with Herts seeing a number of further chances saved by the Saints keeper. Having failed to convert countless penalty corners, Herts switched to let Walker take the shot from the top of the D. Her fiercely stuck effort was knocked past the keeper by Jowett in her usual poaching role to give Herts a third goal.

The scoreline should have been considerably more but the Herts team took comfort from a clean sheet with keeper Mo failing to touch the ball once in the entire game.
