South Herts 1st XI v Leighton Buzzard 2nd XI

A stunning start to the season for South Herts 1st XI with a 5-1 victory against Leighton Buzzard 2s.

Cate Jackson tapped in the first inside the opening 10 minutes after a weaving run from Claire Moore, playing through the pain of a wrist injury. A brief lapse of concentration allowed Buzzard to equalise but within 2 minutes Jackson was on the mark again crashing in a shot after a neat one two on the edge of the area.

Not wanting to miss out on the goal feast, Sarah Jowett poached a third goal for Herts deflecting in a shot from Caroline Stanners and then scored a forth minutes later, finishing off a move started by an interception and 50 yard pass out of defence by Jacky Manning.

Stanners and Lucy Edwards were both unlucky not to score with Edwards rounding the keeper but sadly no longer having the pace in her legs to beat the covering defender to the ball for a tap in.

Herts fifth, all of which came in an energetic first half was scored by Faye Jowett with a deft scoop over the oncoming keeper after Stanners shot had been saved.

The team stepped down a gear in the second half but the midfield and defence kept their concentration and ensured that Buzzard never looked likely to steal the points from Herts.
