South Herts 1st XI v Broxbourne 1st XI27 September 2008South Herts 2-3 Broxbourne Herts went down 3-2 in a hard fought game again played out in unseasonably warm temperatures. Broxbourne scored with their first attack when a well planned set piece found their attacker unmarked in front of goal. The early setback didn’t dampen the Herts spirits and within 5 minutes they were level following another penalty corner strike from Anna Walker that deflected up and over the stranded keeper. Herts continued to press and were rewarded with a second goal when Caroline Partridge dribbled into the box and beat the keeper and defender on the line. The well organised Herts defence kept Broxbourne at bay for much of the half but shortly before half time, Broxbourne equalised following what some Herts defenders clearly felt was a foul. For the second week running, Herts conceded a penalty flick early in the second half but this time Mo Gough showed all her cat like qualities to deflect the ball away with her outstretched hand. After that the game could have gone either way with both teams having chances. Herts were unlucky with a number of penalty corners but just as it looked like Herts might hold out for a draw, Broxbourne broke through and scored the winner. Herts continued to press but couldn’t find the elusive equaliser. Goals: Anna Walker, Caroline Partridge |
