Wapping 2nd XI v South Herts 1st XI6th October 2008South Herts had a bright early start to their first away game in the East League meeting at the Clubhouse at 9.30am for the journey down to Wapping. Unfortunately, Herts were missing the majority of their regular forward line this week but still managed to put a strong team out, with the help from Shelley Farmer and Laura Pointing. Herts were forced to defend heavily at the beginning of the game with Ruth Spencer, Claire Moore and their new recruit Laura Cullen providing a strong defence with Wapping finding it hard to break down. Herts had the first shot on goal where Caroline Partridge’s shot just curled wide after an excellent delivery from Moore from the left wing. However, shortly after Wapping came back with a vengence and scored a couple of quick goals and leaving Herts 0-3 down at half time. After quite an important team talk at half time, Herts started the second half more positive and needing to break through the Wapping high line of defence, Sue Richardson, Caroline Stanners and Anna Walker did so providing excellent runs and long balls through to the forward line. Herts' goal came from an excellent connection from Moore’s ball by Vanessa Porter all the way into the D, where she smashed the ball into the back of the goal. Mo Gough provided some excellent saves towards the end of the game preventing Herts going further behind, they are looking forward to get back to their winning ways next Saturday hosting Chelmsford at home.
