Bishops Stortford 1st XI v South Herts 1st XI

On a freezing cold morning South Herts travelled up to Bishops Stortford to face another Hertfordshire based team.

South Herts began the game having to defend strongly to prevent the fierce attacks coming through from Bishops Stortford. However, a couple of accurate clearances from the back created some good counter attacks proving that South Herts were going to give Bishops Stortford a good game.

Unfortunately, South Herts went 1-0 down toward the beginning of the first half with a free run into the D allowing Stortford to strike the ball straight past a diving Mo Gough. In response Herts began to build their attacks starting from Caroline Stanners on the left and Anna Walker on the right. A long corner taken by Sue Richardson provided a strong hit into the D that travelled along the back line coming back off the near post for Sarah Jowett to calmly push past the keeper and into the back of the goal.

The first half finished with another strong attack from Stortford resulting in Herts going 2-1 down. Herts knew they could build on their attacks and came back in the second half strongly. Some great injections from the wings from Lucy Edwards and Vanessa Porter provided many chances that Herts were just unfortunately unable to convert. However, towards the end of the game, a fantastic run through the Stortford defence and into the D from Stanners finishing with a well-connected strike brought the game back level at 2-2.

Herts remained composed and defended well to finish the game as a satisfactory draw. Next week Herts are back at home against Hertford.
