South Herts 1s v Chelmsford 3sOn Saturday 31st January South Herts made the trip to Chelmsford to play their first game in a while on a water-based astro. The game started lively with South Herts having most of the attacking possession adjusting well to the bouncy pitch and creating some good chances with Faye Jowett and Vanessa Porter on the right and left wings. It was Chelmsford that found the back of the net first with a well worked attacking set piece leaving, birthday girl, Jo Spinks in goal, unable to save the powerful shot. South Herts knew that they could build on their previous attacks and pushed harder in attack. South Herts drew level with a goal from Caroline Stanners steaming through the Chelmsford defence; and before the half time whistle went South Herts scored another. The goal came from a long corner taken from the right by Sue Richardson and Porter got the vital touch inside the circle to put South Herts ahead. During half time South Herts knew that they had to keep working hard to maintain their lead in this game. The second half provided strong attacks from both teams and the South Herts defence remained composed to prevent conceding another goal. A break from defence up the right wing resulted in a long corner, which Richardson directed into the circle for Sarah Jowett to score South Herts’ 3rd goal. South Herts are now determined to continue their winning streak to host Newmarket at home on Saturday. Welwyn & Hatfield Times article Goals: Caroline Stanners, Vanessa Porter, Sarah Jowett |
