South Herts 1s v Hertford 1s21st March 2009South Herts made the short trip to Hertford on Saturday to play their last away game of the season. The game began with both teams having equal possession and attacking opportunities at both ends. South Herts powered forwards with Sarah Jowett, Jo Spinks and Shelley Farmer leading the attacks. During the middle of the first half, one of the Hertford players was given a yellow card for descent towards the umpire and spent the rest of the half on the sideline. South Herts made the most of Hertford being a player down and a well-worked counter attack resulted in an excellent injection into the circle by Anna Walker which found Caroline Stanners who put South Herts 1-0 up. Going into half time Herts worked hard to keep their lead despite the warm spring weather. Lots of running up the right wing by Spinks created more chances in attack which were unfortunately defended well by Hertford. At the beginning of the second half, South Herts conceded a goal early on with a short corner strike by Hertford who were now back to 11 players. Despite some excellent defending, especially from versatile player, Faye Jowett, who has probably played every position on the pitch for South Herts this season, Herts conceded another short corner and Hertford took advantage and went 2-1 up. South Herts picked up their game and came back at Hertford with a run out of defence by Caroline Partridge who attacked into the circle and slipped the ball left to Stanners who had a strike on goal that unfortunately clipped the post and was cleared. Hertford came back again and scored another goal towards the end of the game to make them 3-1 winners. Herts were disappointed with their performance but are determined to get back to winning ways next Saturday when they are hosting Haverhill on their home ground, Dame Alice Owens School in Potters Bar. Goalscorer: Caroline Stanners |
