Blueharts 2nd XI v South Herts 2nd XI

On a gloriously sunny September afternoon the first match of the season got underway with South Herts 2nd XI fielding only 10 players. Having won the toss, South Herts kicked off the new season with some lovely team work, but unfortunately soon went 1-0 down. Some lovely passing in midfield with Shelley Farmer, Michelle Lewis and new girl Alison Dale, saw South Herts coming close to scoring on several occasions. Strikes from Cate Jackson, Michelle Lewis, Sarah Withers and Chris Field unfortunately failed to get the ball past a very confident Blue Harts defence. By half time a worn out South Herts team were 3-0 down.

After a well deserved breather and a change in formation, the second half saw Cate Jackson in defense and Sarah Withers in the midfield. A very defensive South Herts team, with Debbie Morris, Gronia Morley and young Charlotte Sayers at the back, supported by the rest of the team, fought hard and successfully kept out all attempts by a strong Blue Harts team. Goalie Glenys Chiswell made some lovely saves, keeping a clean sheet in the second half.
