St Neots 4th XI v South Herts 2nd XI7th March saw South Herts face St Neots 3. A daunting task when you are playing a team dominating the league with big scores. But South Herts had a game plan and we were going to stick to it. With the extra-added pressure of a side with only 10 players, we were in for a long, hard day's work but we were up for it. Positive thoughts and eagerness for a challenge saw South Herts through the first 15 minutes without St Neots 4 getting past our defence till they forced a short corner which they converted to make it 1-0. South Herts stayed strong with a few attacks towards their half but to no avail. Letting another goal past us before half time wasn’t part of the game plan so a new plan was discussed during the break. Although we were doing better than we could possibly hope for against a side who were having a season like they were, we knew we could do better. South Herts headed into the second half more determined than ever to prove to ourselves anything is possible, and it wasn’t long before a free hit resulted in great passing from Alison to Sarah on the wing who made a dash for the box and hit the backboard with a goal that was celebrated in style by the goal scorer, Sarah Withers. Score, 2-1. Getting within touching distance of a draw was amazing for South Herts and for a while we thought we might actually get more out of this game than we had bargained for. Fighting hard we carried on through but St Neots forced a few short corners and didn’t seem to get out of our half. We held them back for quite some time but eventually they got past us and made it a final result of 3-1. South Herts had the game of their season and although we lost, we were ecstatic with the result. Well Played Herts!!!!! Man of the Match was quite the contest in itself with Charlotte Sayers and Sarah Withers fighting it out, in the end Sarah had the deserved honours. |
