Potters Bar 1st XI v Bishops Stortford 1st XI

10th October 2009

Potters Bar 3-3 Bishops Stortford

Potters Bar were denied a fine victory on Saturday by a Stortford equaliser in the last second of added on time.

Having soaked up early pressure, Bar took the lead when Anna Walker struck a penalty corner straight past the keeper before she had a chance to react. Stortford pushed forward again mounting a wave of attacks but Bar held firm to deny them too many shooting opportunities.

Late in the half, Bar scored a second when Jowett slipped the ball through to Jo Spinks in the D who then hit a cross/ shot which was bundled over the line by Caroline Stanners.

Bar made a sleepy start to the second half and conceded an early goal when Stortford broke through the defence. This sprung Bar back into life and they regained their two goal advantage when Lucy Edwards crossed from the right for captain Stanners to cap a man of the match display with a wonderful shot on the half valley which flew into the goal.

Despite Stortford scoring a second from a break away attack, Bar looked set for a deserved victory until Stortford snatched a last gasp equaliser, long after one umpire had signalled for time.

Bar will be hoping for better fortune when they head to Chelmsford for their next game.

Goals: Caroline Stanners (2), Anna Walker
