Queenswood 1st XI vs Potters Bar 2nd XI

Potters Bar 2nd XI found themselves getting up early on 17th October with a 9:30am push back away against Queenswood 1st XI. Queenswood were made up of Under 16 school girls who currently boast qualifying into the National Schools Final. Bar was lying 5th in the 5 Counties League table, and Queenswood were placed one above. They had only lost to Enigma so far this season, and bearing in mind Bar beat Enigma 2 weeks back, Bar’s squad of 15 had high hopes that fresh legs Vs young legs may give the tilt in Bar’s favour.

Potters Bar won the toss and decided on first pushback. Attacking straight from the whistle Bar found ourselves having a few early chances from both Kerry McCann who narrowly missed a flick, and Shelley Farmer who was denied for a long corner from a Queenswood stick. This was frustrating for Bar, but the team kept fighting hard to keep possession.

Queenswood coach pressed from the sidelines which made the home team attack constantly and finally forcing their first goal. Bar feeling the pressure started to work together in midfield and great passes through the field to Elizabeth Finding, on the right wing, saw a play into Esther Strous who scored a goal off the keeper's pads. But Queenswood soon hit back with a clinically taken short corner conversion.

The second half saw Bar’s heads drop within minutes when they found themselves 4-1 down after Queenswood scored twice in quick concession following a rattled Bar defence. Unfortunately Bar could not pick themselves up after that and although the squad fought hard the fresh legs option seemed to diminish any hope of finding the goal.

The game finished 6-1 to Queenswood and with this not being Potters Bar’s best performance this season, it was a frustrating yet enjoyable game for all. A lot of positive hard work and determination from each player is what the squad will be working on in the team’s 2 week break.
