Leighton Buzzard 4th XI v Potters Bar 2nd XISaturday 14th November 2009Potters Bar Ladies 2nd's played away against Leighton Buzzard 4’s on a incredibly wet and stormy afternoon pushback. Leighton Buzzard (LB) were a position above Potters Bar in the league table on Saturday, creeping just in front by goal difference. BAR knew an away win would provide a profitable result in regards to points, but with players dropping out prior to the match it was always going to be a tough game. Nonetheless, with the epic win against the league leaders in last weeks’ fixture, Bar were quietly confident. Potters Bar won the toss, and it was a slow start as LB marked each player hard. The majority of the game was been fought in midfield which allowed the defence to break up the wings on numerous occasions. Making the forwards push up into the D and creating impressive offensive play. Sarah Gower had a near miss after she drove the ball towards goal creating pressure on the keeper. Although Bar were dominating in possession it wasn’t until 15 minutes into the 1st half when Kerry McCann played around 4 players into Gower who assisted Chris Field in scoring the 1st goal. It wasn’t long until Gower converted the 2nd goal, and Shelley Farmer worked tirelessly to keep possession in Bar’s favour by distributing the ball through the width of the field. Clare Pollitt fought through players assisting Field with her 2nd and Bar’s 3rd goal. Despite LB’s counter attacking when they had the ball, Charlotte Pickup and Michelle Lewis played well in stopping any LB player taking any scoring opportunity. Half time meant Bar were 3-0 up and the team never lost momentum allowing Sarah Withers push up the wing from Right Back and smack a ball into the D which was met by another Field goal who gained her hat-trick. More team work and improved fitness allowed Bar to dominate in the gale force winds and sideways down pours, creating a 5th goal. A short corner gained at the final whistle allowed all players to push up. An injection from Farmer into Withers who stopped the ball into the path of McCann’s drag flick, was saved by the keeper. But a cheeky rebound punt from McCann created another conversion giving Potters Bar a slick 6 - 0 victory. Lady of the match was again another close match in itself with both Charlotte ‘Lotti’ Pickup and Kerry McCann in close contention. Lotti received the players vote in the end, having an awesome game in defence.
